Traco is a personal-safety check-in app. It exists to get help to you when something goes wrong — so the data it handles is sensitive by nature, and we treat it that way. This policy explains exactly what Traco collects, what stays on your device, and the few moments when information leaves it.
The short version. Your safety data — sessions, location history, contacts, medical details — lives on your device. Traco has no advertising, analytics, or tracking and does not sell or share your data for marketing. Information is transmitted off your device only to deliver an alert to the contacts you chose (or to share your live location while a session is running, if you turn that on). Nothing else.
1. Who we are
Traco is developed by Kai Wen (“we”, “us”, “our”). This policy applies to the Traco iOS app and its Apple Watch companion. If you have questions, contact us at support@kaiwen.com.
2. Information you provide
- Emergency contacts. The names, phone numbers, and email addresses you add so Traco can reach them if an alert fires.
- Your profile basics. A display name used to identify you in alert messages, and your preferences (check-in intervals, session presets, alert settings, language).
- Medical profile (optional). If you choose to fill it in: blood type, age, biological sex, allergies, medications, conditions, organ-donor and DNR status, in-case-of-emergency (ICE) contact, and free-text notes. This is stored in your device’s secure Keychain and is included in an alert only when you have entered it, so responders have it when it matters.
- Custom messages and voice recordings. Any message text you write, and audio you record for features such as Traffic Stop or SOS.
3. Information Traco generates
- Location. While a safety session is active, Traco records your location to include in alerts and — for Journey sessions — to build a breadcrumb trail of your route. You control location precision; at the most precise setting Traco can also include a what3words address for hard-to-describe places.
- Session and incident logs. Records of check-ins, missed check-ins, sessions started/ended, and alerts sent, kept on your device so you have a history.
- Heart rate (Apple Watch, optional). If you enable heart-rate distress detection on Apple Watch, Traco reads your heart rate through Apple HealthKit to detect possible distress during a session. This is processed on your device/watch and is not used for any purpose other than the safety feature you enabled.
- Subscription status. Whether you have an active Traco Plus subscription, and a local count of free sessions used this month.
4. How we use information
We use the information above only to make the app work for you:
- To run safety sessions, schedule check-ins, and detect missed check-ins.
- To deliver alerts — with your location, your message, and any details you chose to include — to the emergency contacts you selected.
- To share your live location with your contacts during a session, if you turn that option on.
- To remember your settings and provide your session history.
- To process Traco Plus purchases and apply the correct access level.
We do not use your data for advertising or profiling, and we do not sell or rent it.
5. When information leaves your device
Most data never leaves your phone. Information is transmitted off-device only in these situations:
- When an alert is triggered (a missed check-in, SOS, Traffic Stop, distress detection, low battery, or safe-arrival notice). The alert is sent to our delivery relay so it can be emailed (and, if you enabled automatic SMS, texted) to your chosen contacts.
- While live location sharing is on during a session, periodic location updates are sent through the same relay to your contacts.
- When you use the most precise location setting, your coordinates are sent to the what3words service to obtain a 3-word address. Lower precision settings do not call what3words.
An alert payload may include: your display name and message, your location (coordinates, a readable address, and a map link), the session type and time, an emergency number, the contacts you’re notifying, and — only if you provided them — a voice recording and your medical profile.
6. Third-party services
We use a small number of service providers strictly to operate the app. They process data only to perform their function and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.
| Provider | Purpose | What they receive |
| Apple | App distribution and in-app purchases (StoreKit). Payments are handled entirely by Apple. | Purchase/transaction data. We never receive your payment card details. |
| Cloudflare | Hosts our alert-delivery relay that forwards alerts to your contacts. | The alert payload described in Section 5, only when an alert fires or live sharing is on. |
| Twilio | Sends SMS alerts (only if you enable automatic SMS). | Recipient phone numbers and the alert message. |
| what3words | Converts coordinates into a 3-word address (only at the most precise location setting). | Coordinates to be converted. |
Traco contains no third-party advertising, analytics, crash-reporting, or tracking SDKs.
7. On-device AI
Traco offers optional AI features (such as smart check-in interval suggestions) using an AI model that runs entirely on your device. If you choose to enable these features, the model file is downloaded once from a hosting provider; that download contains no personal information. All AI processing happens locally — your prompts and data are not sent to us or any AI provider.
8. Where your data is stored and how it’s protected
- App data (sessions, contacts, logs, location history) is stored locally on your device and encrypted at rest using iOS file protection.
- Your medical profile and other sensitive details are stored in the iOS Keychain.
- Data transmitted to our relay is sent over encrypted HTTPS connections.
9. Data retention and deletion
- Journey breadcrumb trails are automatically deleted from your device when you check in safely or end the session.
- Other data remains on your device until you delete it (individual sessions/contacts) or delete the app, which removes its local data.
- Our relay forwards alerts in real time and is not designed to retain your alert content beyond what is briefly needed to deliver it and retry on failure.
- Once an alert is delivered to your contacts by email or SMS, that message resides with those contacts and their email/phone providers, outside our control.
10. Your choices and rights
- Location. You control location and precision through iOS permissions and in-app settings. Denying location limits safety features that depend on it.
- Health. Heart-rate access is optional and managed through Apple Health permissions.
- Notifications, contacts, and medical info can be added, edited, or removed at any time in the app.
- Access and deletion. Because your data lives on your device, you can view and delete it directly in the app. For any request relating to data we may process through our relay, contact support@kaiwen.com.
Depending on where you live (for example, the EEA/UK under GDPR, or California under the CCPA/CPRA), you may have additional rights such as access, correction, deletion, and the right to object. We honor these rights; contact us to exercise them. We do not sell personal information.
11. Children’s privacy
Traco can be used by families, including to help keep children safe, and offers a “Kid Mode.” Traco is intended to be set up and managed by a parent or guardian and does not collect personal information from children for advertising or any commercial purpose. If you believe a child has provided information in a way you’d like addressed, contact us at support@kaiwen.com.
12. International transfers
Our service providers may process data in countries other than yours. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for such transfers. By using alert delivery, you understand that the alert is routed through these providers to reach your contacts.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will revise the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Continued use of Traco after an update means you accept the revised policy.
